On Saturday, July 15th, the Brookland Neighborhood Picnic attracted a large crowd, around 400 people, gathered in Angel Park on the grounds of the Franciscan Monastery of the Holy Land in America. Neighborhood residents including the friars who live in the Monastery came together to share and foster friendships.
In addition to food and fellowship, there were games, live music, and face painting. Representatives of St Anthony Catholic School and the Franciscan Monastery Garden Guild provided information and local firefighters brought a fire engine and firefighter hats for the children.
The picnic was co-sponsored by the Franciscan Monastery and the Abbott-Klar Real Estate Group. Thanks to this initiative, people gathered and connected while exploring the beauty of this corner of the city, including its garden and church. Additionally, they had the chance to gain firsthand knowledge about the lives of the Franciscan friars, who play a crucial role in bridging the connection between Washington and the Holy Land.
