Terra Sancta Museum in Jerusalem

In October 2028, with your generosity, the Franciscans will inaugurate the first major Christian museum in Jerusalem.

The Terra Sancta Museum is needed in the Holy City, which has a Jewish Museum and a Museum for Islamic Art with no Christian equivalent. With this museum, the Franciscans hope to create a new cultural offering which presents the roots of Christianity and the Christian dimension of Jerusalem, initiates cultural projects to foster dialogue and mutual recognition among believers of different religions, and trains tomorrow’s local leaders in cultural heritage preservation and awareness.

The museum will feature a collection of gold and silver objects, liturgical vestments, paintings, mother-of-pearl and icons offered in devotion for Christ’s tomb. Some of these works are the only remaining examples of collections that were thought to have been lost to war, revolution, or looting but Jersualem managed to preserve them in the shadows of sacristies. Come and admire the genius of man in the service of spirituality.
