In the city of Bethlehem on the Solemnity of the Epiphany, a Solemn Mass and Evening Prayer is celebrated, commemorating the Magi who came from afar to worship Jesus, bringing gold and frankincense and myrrh. Three friars representing the Magi and bring gifts to the grotto where Jesus was born. From the grotto, a festively dressed statue of the Child Jesus is carried in the procession.
Here at the Franciscan Monastery of the Holy Land, we will replicate this ceremony at the 10 a.m. Mass, on Sunday, January 7. The statue of the Child Jesus will be carried in procession, and reverenced with incense. Please join us as the Christmas season draws to a close.
