On Friday, August 2, we celebrate the Feast of Our Lady of the Angels of the Portiuncula. This tradition dates back to 1216, when St. Francis of Assisi obtained from Christ a special grace: the possibility of receiving a plenary indulgence for all who visit the chapel of the Portiuncula with sincere repentance.

This gift was later extended to all Franciscan churches, including our Monastery Church and the replica of the Portiuncula, located in the upper garden.

To mark the occasion, a Mass will be celebrated at 7:00 a.m. in the replica of the Portiuncula. All are welcome.

To receive the plenary indulgence, the faithful must:

  • Visit a Franciscan church (on August 2 or from the evening of August 1)

  • Go to Confession (within 8 days before or after)

  • Receive Holy Communion

  • Pray the Creed, the Our Father, the Hail Mary, and the Glory Be for the intentions of the Holy Father
