Observe the feast of Saint Anthony of Padua at the Franciscan Monastery of the Holy Land in America in Washington, DC.

Masses will be offered at 6:00am, 7:00am and 10:30am. There will be a distribution of bread after the 10:30am mass.

This tradition of blessing bread and giving it to those in need is associated with Saint Anthony. Saint Anthony was a kind and humble friar who devoted his life to service for the poor and who never turned anyone away who sought his help. In 1955, the Aranda family prayed for a miracle from Saint Anthony and he answered their prayers. For more than 60 years, the Aranda family – now the third generation – honors Saint Anthony at the Franciscan Monastery every year by donating Saint Anthony’s bread (more than 4,000 rolls) for distribution.
