A special Marian Tour will be offered at the Monastery at 1:00 p.m. on September 12th, the feast of the Most Holy Name of Mary. The tour focuses on the seven joys of the Blessed Mother, visiting the replicas in the Church and the Gardens associated with these joys.
The seven joys of the Blessed Mother are the basis for a version of a rosary called the Franciscan Crown. This rosary dates to 1422 when the Blessed Mother appeared to a Franciscan novice and instructed him to pray a rosary of seven decades in honor of her seven joys. It is called a crown because the novice had made a crown of flowers for Mary. The seven joys are: the Annunciation, the Visitation, the Nativity, the Adoration of the Magi, the Finding of Jesus in the Temple, the Appearance of the Risen Christ to the Blessed Mother and the Assumption and Coronation of the Blessed Mother.
The tour also includes the Marian Chapel, Marian artwork and images in the Monastery Church and ends with a visit to the replica of Lourdes in the lower garden.
The Marian tour lasts approximately 45 minutes and is free to the public. For groups of 6 or more, please call ahead to make a reservation at (202) 526-6800 or email Carolyn@myfranciscan.org.
