Record-breaking year for the Franciscan Monastery Garden Guild

This was a record-breaking year for the Franciscan Monastery Garden Guild’s vegetable donation program. Over 7,500 pounds of fresh, Monastery-grown produce and herbs were given to the friars, parish food pantries and feeding programs, and local non-profits that help neighbors in need, such as DC Central Kitchen, Martha’s Table and the DC Food Bank.
All of the produce is grown and harvested by volunteers. The Franciscan Monastery Garden Guild preserves and promotes the gardens of the Franciscan Monastery of the Holy Land through volunteer work, tours, beekeeping and workshops, and serves the community through donations of produce and education about urban gardening.
