The Franciscan Monastery’s reforestation project’s goal is to plant 150 white pine and hardwood trees to add to the 170 already planted. Trees have so many benefits. They reduce harmful levels of carbon dioxide, clean the air we breathe, and help mitigate climate change. With 42 acres in Washington, DC and century-old gardens, a greenhouse, orchard, meadow and apiary, the Monastery has become a preferred site in the District of Columbia for improving the air quality and reducing negative impacts on the environment through planting trees.

The joint Peabody and Christopher Newport University Harp Ensemble is honored to be a part of the Franciscan Monastery’s Spring Luncheon.  Past performances include the National Cherry Blossom Festival, the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, and Governor Larry Hogan’s (R-MD) National Day of Prayer Breakfast and Holiday Open House.  They recently gave the world premiere of Dr. Evan Meier’s Variations on an Antique Theme, commissioned specifically for them for the Les Harpes Camac Festival by founder and director Dr. Anastasia Pike.

Also, as a tribute to all the moms at the luncheon, Dr. Anastasia Pike and her students will accompany Father Benjamin while he sings the Ave Maria.
